This is a panoramic view of Orford Ness from one of the few areas of higher ground that has a view of most of the peninsula. Many of the buildings that were used for top secret military research between World War I and the end of the Cold War can be seen. The radar masts are at the left. The large building to the right of them is the Cobra Mist building, which controlled the experimental over-the-horizon radar system in the early 1970s. Towards the far right you can just make out the giant, concrete "pagodas" that were used for testing the conventional components of nuclear warheads.
I really must return to this spot on a clearer day and with a longer lens.
